About the role
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Legal Recoveries Officer to manage a portfolio of early to late-stage arrears and recovery accounts, including high-balance and complex exposures across all products.
Initiate and maintain contact with customers and guarantors to assess financial position and negotiate suitable repayment arrangements and settlements based on the customers' capacity to repay the account. Apply sound commercial judgement to determine appropriate recovery strategies that balance customer outcomes and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage a portfolio of early to late-stage arrears and recovery accounts, including high-balance and complex exposures across all products.
Initiate and maintain contact with customers and guarantors to assess financial position and negotiate suitable repayment arrangements and settlements based on the customers' capacity to repay the account.
Identify accounts requiring escalation to legal recovery, insolvency, or external collection agencies and make recommendations accordingly.
Provide clear and accurate instructions to external providers including solicitors, mercantile agencies, and insolvency practitioners.
Monitor progress of escalated matters to ensure cost-effective and timely outcomes.
Apply sound commercial judgement to determine appropriate recovery strategies that balance customer outcomes and business objectives.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all customer interactions, arrangements, and recovery actions in internal systems.
Review account data and customer information to support effective decision-making and recovery strategy selection.
Contribute to regular reporting on recovery performance, trends, and outcomes as required by management.
Handle customer queries, disputes, and complaints related to arrears and recoveries promptly and appropriately.
Experience and Skills Required:
Previous experience in collections, recoveries, or credit control within financial services or commercial lending.
Demonstrated ability to manage arrears and recovery accounts through negotiation and structured resolution strategies.
Strong communication, negotiation, and conflict management skills.
Sound understanding of debt recovery processes and compliance obligations in Australia.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
Experience managing mid-to-stage recoveries, legal referrals, or insolvency matters.
Exposure commercial or SME lending portfolios.
Familiarity with working alongside legal, insolvency, or external recovery providers.
Strong analytical skills and data-driven decision-making skills, with proficiency in multiple Loan Management, CRM systems and using multiple systems to work accounts.
Exposure to insolvency proceedings, voluntary administrations, and debt restructuring negotiations.
